New Year, New Schools

Andrew went to our local elementary school last year and we homeschooled Joe. Lillie went to a daycare/preschool for a short period of time 2 days a week. We decided to change it up a little this year. We found out about a great school 20 minutes away in a farming town. They have rated outstanding for the last couple of years. They keep their class sizes small and (gasp) I have both Joe and Andrew's teachers cell #'s.!!!! :) Anyways the boys are loving it and both enjoy going there. Here the boys are in the front of the school on thier first day.

Here is Andrew at his desk. There are 9 kids in his class. It looks so funny seeing a huge classroom, but a small # of desks.

Lillie started at a semi-montessori preschool and she loves it too. She has made many new friends and is already learning letter sounds.

She joined in and starting playing right away!

We have also been enjoying one of these lately! :D

This is Myckennly. She is 2 weeks old and is Casey and my great niece. She has been at our house a couple times a week and we love it!

We just had the Pendleton Round Up "Let'R Buck parade and the kids had a good time and caught lots of candy! We also had a wonderful 9/11 breakfast, procession, and church service followed by a BBQ. It was lovely and hot! The weather has been very hot and I am ready for some cool fall temperatures. Pictures to come when I find my memory card. :( Hope everyone has had a great summer and you school adventures have been great!

An Idea to Remember

I thought this was a great idea for teaching fruits of the spirit. Smokity Frocks uses a picture of a grape with the "fruits" on it. When her kids show patience, self control, peace, love, joy......the kids are able to put a gold sticker on their chart. If they see a sibling showing one of these traits, they get to put a colored star on the siblings chart. Take a look! Smokity Frocks - Fruit of the Spirit.

Our family has been pretty grumpy and down right selfish lately, so we are going to tackle this!

When Your Children Make You Proud!

I am just so proud of my boys that I have to share! :) Both boys were playing out front and came and asked for a bag or bin to put leaves in. What leaves? We really don't have any trees in the front that are dropping leaves right now. I looked outside and saw that they had piled up all the elderly neighbors leaves and wanted to carry them all to our compost pile. :D So proud of my boys for thinking about others!

My daughter turned 3 yesterday! As with all my kids....I am just in love with her! Although there are days I am exausted from taking care of her, I am so greatful God gave me this sweet, beautiful, yet spitfire of a girl! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LILLIE, WE ALL LOVE YOU!!!

Visted a new church

Since we have moved, we have not found a new church. It hasn't been my priority for a long time. Finally my priorities have change and I am glad for that. As I have been preparing for homeschooling and have noticed my kids acting up, I decided it was NOW that a home church be found. So in the next couple of weeks we will be looking for a church. This Sunday we went to a small church....I mean small! Only 3 families. No Sunday school. I let the pastor and his family know that my children have only gone to church a couple times this past year and that they have never had to stay in the service with me. They almost always went to a childrens church.

I must say I am dissapointed in myself for not training my children to be able to sit and behave for any period of time. :( And I am now on a mission to teach that to my 10, 7, and 2 (almost 3) year old. They did great though. (ofcourse I felt embarassed for them not sitting the whole time) They all sat good for 40 minutes. I must think positive and realize that 40 mintues is BIG for children who have never had to sit.

I loved that the families there homeschool and very very sweet to me. They realized that this is a learning process for my kids and that practicing at home is a good way to help the kids learn.

I am anxious to start family worship time and doing devotionals with them again. I also plan on having the kids sit in one spot and practice sitting for periods of time.

The church was great, and we plan on going again. Maybe next time my husband will accompany us.

Completing Him Challenge Week 1

Decided this would be a fun challenge. It was started by Courtney and is at her blog.

For week one:

June 14 – Step 1: Post a picture and/or write about your dating days.

So here we go.....
Casey and I met at a big camping bonfire party and I was just smitten by him. His nickname was "The Firefighter". And I love a man in uniform. I had no clue if he was a real firefighter or not. He was not feeling well so I was checking in with him every once in a while. The next morning my friends had left with out me and I needed a ride home. Fortunalty Casey was there and asked if he could take me home. This was the start of our relationship. Our dating consisted of meeting at a local hang out and just talking and having fun. I don't think we really ever went out on a real dinner date.

Step 2: Consider: How much time do you spend on a daily/weekly basis cultivating your marriage now? In what ways can you regain some of what has been lost in the daily shuffle of life?

I haven't been doing this at all. After almost 11 years of marriage, we have really lost touch. So this week I will spend some more one on one time with my husband and remind him how much I love him and respect him! I will lift him up in prayer and make sure I tell and show him I love him! With having 3 children and soon to be 4 (Step daughter comming for the summer!!!! :) ) we really haven't had any alone time at all. I need to make it a priority.

Update from the homefront!

WOW it has been awhile since I have posted. That seems to be the norm around here. We are a very busy family. Both Casey and I have been going to school. Him full time and me part time. It has been hectic, but very enjoyable for me. I actually like going to school and as of right now am pulling A's in both classes! YAY!

The boys school year is almost over and I am as excited as them to have a summer break. The boys have done great in school and really have enjoyed thier teachers this year. I was able to go on a field trip with both of them! It was so good to be able to spend time with them at school. I think Andrew will have a boy teacher next year and he is excited for that. Male teachers are hard to come by! :) Joe is starting something new next year. He was accepted into Oregon Virtual Academy and will be schooling at home. He and I are excited for this and can't wait for the curriculum to come in the mail! :D

Lillie is growing like a weed. She is imaginative playing so much now and everytime I try to video her, she spots me and stops playing! :( She is slowly potty training and is excited to go to preschool this comming fall!

The weather here has been cold and raining one day to sunny the next. I was able to get some planting done, but then we had a wind storm and the chickens were able to sneek out and ate all my crop. So I am starting over and gardening veggies in the front yard in pots. Hopefully we will be able to eat some fresh veggies this year!

Cooking With Lillie - Making Playdough Part 2

Part 2 of making playdough! See this post to go to the beginning.

Once the burner is on medium, soon the wet dough will begin to form and look like this. Keep stirring. ;)

You may have to start flopping the dough over to make sure all is getting heated. It will soon start to take on a solid form. The color will brighten up also.

When it looks like the above picture, I flop it out onto a counter and begin kneading it and helping it cool down. WARNING: it will be very hot. You may have to wait a few minutes before you can knead it.

Let it cool enough for your anxious child to play, and your done! Enjoy! This batch makes quite a bit. It can be doubled, but you will need a bigger skillet because this recipe fills mine to the brim!
Grandmas Soft Playdough

3 cups flour
1 1/2 cup salt
3 cups water
2 tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon cream of tarter
food coloring
spices or extract for smell

First mix all the dry ingredients
(for this time, I added allspice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sometimes I add lavender, or vanilla)
Then add all the dry ingredients and mix together.
Turn stove on medium heat.
Stir till dough takes form and looks like playdough!

We store ours in a tupperware container and use it for months!

Cooking With Lillie - Making Playdough Part 1

This is a playdough recipe that I just love, and Lillie loves making it with me! To make it easy for my 2 year old to help, we first get all the ingredients ready! I put them all in small containers that she can easily poor into the skillet.
FYI : Although the skillet is on the burner, I do not actually turn on the burner till Lillie is done stirring and I move her out of the way! :) Yes, I know kitchen safety!! :)

Stir, stir, stir. This is Lillie favorite thing to do! She is mixing all the dry ingredients together before we add the wet!
I mix the food coloring into the water before we it to the dry ingredients. Stirring is so much fun!

When it starts to look like this, I move Lillie away from the stove, and I turn the burner on and stir some more. So here is the brief pause while I move her.........

Touring Tuesday

I was recently reading a blog that was doing a Touring Tuesday and was really enjoying it. Her blog is now not working, so I thought I would give it a try. So, every Tuesday I will try to give you a tour of areas of my home, town, and fun places we go! Please come along and enjoy the tours!

Our first tour will be the outside of our home. This is what people see when they first pull up to out house!

This is what you see from the other side of the street. This is a rental, so there is not a whole lot we can to. Or want to pay to have done! :)

If we are still here this summer, we are going to power wash the fence, fix the rotten ones, and repaint it!

Come on through the gate. Their are about 16 rose bushes in the river rock. They are beautiful in the summer, but a little dull in the winter!

Beautiful Flowers, Beautiful Neighbors

With spring time weather in Eastern Oregon today, it reminded me of some beautiful pictures I took. We used to live in a pretty old house. We didn't like it and for many years wanted to move. What was keeping us was our neighbors. To one side of us was a sweet older couple. We loved them and our kids did too. She always had beautiful flowers growing in her backyard. Roger and Norma traveled to Nebraska every spring and summer to visit family and for many years I was there to tend to her flower and feed their cat. Oh how I miss tending to her flowers and visiting with their cat. We miss their great friendship and learned many wonderful things from our dear neighbors.

Now for the pictures. Oh how I love summer and beautiful flowers!

Do you only wear skirts? I love to wear skirts! I do not wear them all the time, but am starting my collection. And one day plan to try only wearing skirts. I feel more sophisticated in them, more pleasing to look at, and feel just plain pretty when I wear them. I only have a few and would love more! So I am gonna tell you about a great give away! Learning About Disabilities

Our son Andrew (6 almost 7) has a small disability. When he was a toddler and preschooler I was sure it was big and he really needed help. But as he has grown and learned how to cope, the disability has slowly decreased. He has never fit a diagnosis. I have searched and searched to diagnose him, but to no avail, he doesn't fit. He has a little of this and a little of that. So far I think he has Sensory Processing Disorder (Hyposensitive). The diagnosis is mainly just for me because I feel for some reason that I need to know. Today I went to a class about Aspergers and ADHD. It was informative. Most of it didn't fit into Andrew's life. He does well in school and most of the class was about how to help the teachers teaching them and how as parents to give the right information to teachers to help the child learn. Some of the ideas I can use at home when he is doing his homework. For a while I thought. Why am I here. My kids are being babysat while I listen to what I already know. Then at the end of the class, I realized why God put me into that class. I was talking to a preschool teacher who was just taking the class for a certification, but her grandchild showed small sighs of issues. So as I was describing Andrew she was amazed and gleaned from me everything I was saying! And what she thought was the best????? I had explained that Andrew never slept very long. As an infant, to toddler, to preschooler, to schoolager. This past year we accidentally put a very heavy blanket on his bed and for the first time he slept through the night! We didn't realize it till 3 days later that it was a trend. Why didn't we think of it sooner? He needed pressure and security to sleep! :) We were happy. Then as school started he would do great in school and then breakdown when he got into the van for the ride home. Sometimes in the parking lot. From this, I learned to have a heavy lap blanket in the car and a chewy snack and drink for the 2 minute drive home! It works wonders!

We still have many more quirks to work out, but I am happy God led me to this class to help someone else out like me! I also learned of a resource I can use in the area I live and I great woman who has 2 children with disabilities that I can call on if I ever need advice or new ideas! YES!!

We are a family that loves baby wearing!

When I saw posts on moms talking about baby wearing, I always though I loved my stroller too much to start wearing Lillie. But as I was doing daycare and could not afford a double stroller, I decided to buy a sling for Lillie. I loved my sling even though sometimes it was hard to use. I then found the mei tai and loved how it looked, but knew I couldn't afford a good one. That is when I started looking on line for paterns. Eventually I found a patern and changed it to look more like a Baby Hawk carrier. Then I went to work. I found an old curtain to use for the fabric and a part of some cool sheets we weren't using anymore. I used one of the think fabric pads you can use to change baby on for head support for a littler baby (the head support was tucked in on this picture for some reason). Doesn't look exactly like a Baby Hawk, but good enough for me!Anways, I have loved my mei tai and am so glad I am a baby wearing mama now! So much that when deciding to go for a walk and pick up the boys at school, I used a stroller for Lillie and she just kept saying that she was going to fall out. She ended up walking the whole way! My oldest boy loves to carry Lillie too. I will post one of him when I can find it! :)

And on another note: Can anyone tell me how to post a picture on blogger and not have it the first thing on my post?

Want to eat healthier this year?

We do and have been doing pretty well! But we really miss certain things. One major one is popcorn with yummy butter, or sauteeing in yummy butter! Well, I just read one of my favorite blogs and Amy is giving away a free bottle of grapeseed oil! SO I had to do some research. The grapeseed oil she is giving away is from Wildtree. I checked out their catalog and yummy, it all looks great! Here is some info from their catolog: " Grapeseed oil is low in saturated fat, even lower than olive oil. It is high in Antioxidents, like vitamin E. It has no colesterol. And there are even studies showing that it helps raise HDL (good colesterol) and lowers LDL (bad colesterol) and may have other health benefits like lowering blood pressure. " Sounds good to me! Amy even gives a couple recipies to use it in! The popcorn idea looks awsome! We love buttery stovetop popcorn! Check it out and get some for yourself!

This past Mother's day and other happenings!

We decided to go tot he beach and have some yummy Mo's clam chowder. It was a wonderful day and we really enjoyed our time together!

Lillie real first time playing in the water and she loved it. It was freezing cold!!! The northern Oregon beach is always cold. Brrr!

Casey and Andrew dug a huge hole!

We tried to make a big sand castle, but it mostly just broke down.

Packing is going well. One room is totally packed and cleaned all the others are half way there. This week the boys are going to a local VBS. It is a pretty big church and so it is really "happening" there. So many cool props and fun things to do. While the boys are having fun there we are frantically packing and cleaning. Casey has been busy at the yard work and it looks better than it did when we moved in! What an awesome husband! I better get back to work. :(

P.S. I finally got to use my Christmas present from 2 years back and had a one hour massage today! It was wonderful. Hurt a little bit but still wonderful!

How things have changed.

We are at a cross roads in our life. It is uplifting, scary, sad, exciting, and refreshing all at the same time. My good friends know that my DH was laid off in January and I took in more daycare kids to help with the bills. This made me exausted and hating my job. Jealous of my DH who was able to sleep in, hang out, and do as he pleases. 5 months went buy of this and after talking to my mother-in-law, I decided to ask my DH about moving to eastern Oregon where things are cheeper and he could go back to school. I could be home with my kids with no distractions. My in-laws live there and they did the dirty work for us. They found out how much things cost there. What the good schools are and found us a cute, little house. We are going from $1200.00 a month rent to $750.00. AHHH and also smaller bills...$50.00 electric bills instead of $200.00. Casey starts school in the fall and is going for his firefighter/paramedic. I am so excited for him. Eventually I will go back to school too. BMCC has a great nursing program! So we are now packing up our things, going through old paperwork, and preparing for a garage sale. I know this move will help us for the future, but I will truly miss my family, friends, and church I have here. :(

Back to blogging and moving!

Okay, I am seriously back to blogging! Well, at least I hope I am. I want this for myself and my kids! I want to remember the fun times and help my kids remember. So, I will try my hardest to take pictures of my kids and post and write about our days!

We are moving again. We moved to the current house in October after living in a small hoouse for 5 years. Now we go back to a really small house! Smaller than before. Casey was layed off in January and after lots of thinking and praying we decided to pack up and move to Pendleton. Casey's family is there to help us and be of suppport. Casey is registered to start school in the fall and will get his GED this summer. We hope and pray that I will be able to stay home and be the mom I have always wanted to be. If needed I can take one daycare kid, or get a morning coffee making job. But I really want to try to stay home. Housing prices and cheeper there and their is alot of support for low income families there. We will be able to get a free pass to the aquatic center for the summer because of lay offs. Their children's museum is only $3 to get into versus our $9 price here. I am excited, but also scared about the big change!

Where has the time gone? Cherries everywhere!

It's been a long time since I have blogged! Boy, time just flies when you are working and have 3 kids. Lets catch up! My last blog about my family was gardening, so lets start in the summertime! This was a beautiful cherry tree in our neighbors yard. They did not want the fruit, so we picked and picked and picked! We gave plenty away, but also had fun finding ways to preserve them.

We picked buckets and buckets and coolers full! Aren't they beautiful!

Joe thought I needed a pic too! So here I am pulling down the limbs to get the cherries.

One way we preserved was pitting them and drying them. Boy was that a mess and very time consuming, but they tasted soo good!

I can't seem to find the other pictures, but we also canned and froze them. They were so tasty! We will miss that tree! It was chopped down to build a new house!

Three things I am thankful for:
1. Our home, although we don't own it and it is small, I love that we have a big garden and it is still cheeper than most housing around here!
2. My family. My parents and in-laws for helping us through our hard times! My silly kids and working husband.
3. My true friends who are there when I need them.

2) Take Time to Plan (5 minutes)

My to do list:
1. Laundry room. I need to make room for the dog crates. The 4th is coming and and our dog need a safe place to be quiet.
2. Livingroom clean and vacuumed
3. All dishes done and put away

Dinner tonight: Spaghetti, garlic bread, and salad
(the meat is thawing right now)

Andrew learned how to drive the tractor. The boys had a great time and daddy slept well that night! Our garden kept growing and growing. Now it's about 1/2 of our back yard and I love it. Next we plant and make a fence to keep the dogs out!

And then you build the beds. Thanks to Casey and Casey's dad they got them done quickly!

When the beds are done, hire the boys to fill them. We paid them with pats on the back and lots of kisses!

Preschool Graduation

Andrew graduated from preschool yesterday. He is now a kindergartner. ;( He is just growing up. Here he is singing at his program.

I love the little guy beside him...he is so cute! What a little wiggle worn! Okay, there is more...I have to show!!!

Sorry no pictures of me, I had Lillie in the backpack and the camera around my neck. We ended up walking 3 miles! That's alot for my kids. They sure slept well. ;)

We went camping 7th, 8th, 9th of March. It was cold, but very fun. Lots of hiking trails and and good 'ol family fun around the camp fire. My mom and dad came by on Sat. night to have dinner with us. It was so nice.

We are not moving....It just didn't feel right. So, we will stay here and try to fix this place up a little bit..I mean alot. Our plans are to

1.) Plant lots of colorful flowers.

2.) Fix side yard into an outside eating area - or maybe flower garden

3.) Put together shed to hold outside tools and machines.

4.) Build dog yard for the dogs. Kids and dog separate = happy mom. :) (no poopy shoes)

5.) Replant grass in play area in backyard.

6.) Buy a play structure

7.) Get garden area ready for planting!!!!!YAY!!

8.) New fence or shrubs on fence line for privacy.

Since we are not moving, be can use that money to make this place nice and pay off many debts!

Sounds like a good plan for me. I plan on taking pictures and showing our progress!

BASEBALL:

Time to be a sports mom. Good thing dad is here to help. Andrew practices on tues. and thurs.

Joe practices on mon. and wed. It's going to be a long season, but lots of fun. I can't wait!

A new home and a new begining with the Lord

We just applied for a new home. Not sure if we will get it or not, but it would be nice to have. Much bigger than out house now, and it is on 4 acres with a creek running through it. The wierd part of it is that we would be sharing the property with the owner. They have chickens, a llama and a goat. They will come by 1 day a week and 1 day on the weekend to feed,water and take care of them. That part seems a little strange to me. But I so long for the country that I will take what I can get! Pray that is works out for us how The Lord wants it to.

I wrote that last night....now I am a little scared about it. I don't want to move, but then many days I complain that our house it too small and the layout is hard to work with. I went to write the owener and telll him that we were having doubts and he had written me already. There was one other applicant before us and if they app. goes through we will not get it. Which I am okay with. So we will see on Tues. or Wed. if we are moving.

Church yesterday was nice. Only Lillie Bean and I went. Our assosiate paster spoke. He was good today. I usually don't care for his speaking, but today he did wonderful. It was titles: Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing. Mathew 28:16-20 He went to saying
The mission of the church is.....
1. grounded in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. (vs. 17)

2. arose out of worshipand must always be centered in worship. (vs.16,17)

3. advanced in the midst of doubters. (vs. 17)

4. in the ruling and reigning Christ. (vs.18)

7. to teach other to obey. (vs. 20)

8. will soon come to an end. (vs.20)

9. undertaken with the presence of the risen Lord.

Ofcourse he went into depth about all of these and I got out of it much. Especially that we need to teach others to obey...How can I teach others if I don't obey myself??? I am working on that today. I have been a Christian my whole life, but never really a full believer. Never have I sat and read my bible. I only pray when the going is really good, or really bad. I WILL CHANGE THIS. And to think..I teach preschool at our church. I want to teach others how to obey because yes, it will soon come to an end. Maybe in my lifetime and maybe not, but I don't want anyone left out when the time comes because I didn't step out of my box and teach them. The learning to obey has now begun.

Well, I have a blog now! yay! I have stepped up into the world now! This blog is for keeping reord of what my children have been doing so that I remember and can tell them in the future what it was like having them when they were young. Also for my family to see how we are doing.

A little about myself and family...My name is Karrie and I am a daycare provider. I have 3 children of my own and my DH has another daughter from a prev. That makes 2 boys and 2 girls. I just had my first girl in August and am loving it. My DH works for a electric supply company and also is a hunting guide. I am cloth diapering for the first time and really enjoy it. I hope to start making my own sometime and that will be fun.
